GAME NOTES I FREE WEBSTREAM ON NECFRONTROW.COM I LIVE STATS

New Britain, CT -
The Wagner Seahawks look to improve to 2-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play when they take to the road to meet Central Connecticut on this afternoon at 1:00 pm.

The Green & White are coming off of a well-earned bye week, following a thrilling 46-39 double-overtime home win over Saint Francis U on October 11 in the NEC opener for both teams.

Wagner-CCSU: The Matchup
Something's got to give when the Seahawks (3-3, 1-0 NEC) and Blue Devils (2-5, 0-2 NEC) meet for the 27th time as the all-time series is tied 13-13. Last season, CCSU posted a 52-17 win on Grymes Hill.

Known more for his running prowess, left-handed junior quarterback Chris Andrews hit a slew of big plays through the air in leading Wagner to the win over SFU. Andrews went  9-of-17 passing for 165  yards and two touchdowns in relief of starting quarterback Brian Gehring after the senior left the game in the third quarter with a left (non-throwing) wrist injury.

Of Andrews' nine completions, five went to sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Gills. Of the 17 passes that Andrews attempted, Gills was targeted on eight. He also had two touchdown passes to fifth-year senior Bryant Watts of 21 and nine yards His other two completions were to junior running back Otis Wright of five yards and sophomore wide receiver AndreYevchinecz for eight yards.

Gills, who entered the game with two receptions for 17 yards on the season, erupted for career highs with seven catches for 152 yards, vs, SFU which included a then-career-long 43-yard reception which he later topped with a 47-yard grab.

Defensively, Wagner is led by senior inside linebacker Max Wassel, who has a team-high 41 tackles. Fifth-year senior safety Daniel Mack, a Wake Forest transfer, is the leader tackler in the secondary with 34 tackles, while senior CB Jarrett Dieudonne leads the team with three interceptions and five pass breakups. Senior DT Al Page, a transfer from Rutgers, is the Seahawks' most stout defensive lineman with 25 stops and seven tackles for loss.

The Blue Devils, under first-year head coach and Staten Island native Pete Rossomando, opened the season with an eye-opening win over Towson, which made it the 2013 NCAA FCS Division I championship game. The Blue Devils enter the Wagner game with a 2-5 overall record and an 0-2 NEC mark and are coming off of consecutive losses to Duquesne (28-20) and Robert Morris (27-24). In last week's tussle at RMU, CCSU led 24-9 before the Colonials closed with 18 straight points in posting their first win of the season.

CCSU is led by explosive senior running back Rob Hollomon, a 5-8, 170-pound Philadelphia native, who is the Blue Devils' all-time leading rusher with 3,430 career yards and has 874 this season. He rushed for 147 yards and four TDs in last year's matchup when the Blue Devils tallied 28 fourth-quarter points to break open a 24-17 game.

Wagner Last Time Out
When Wagner jumped out to an early 21-0 lead over SFU , it did not appear this game would develop into a down-the-wire, two-overtime thriller, one that featured 85 combined points, 11 combined touchdowns, two combined field goals and 848 combined yards (SFU-432, Wagner-416). Facing that early 21-0 deficit, SFU stormed back with 22 straight points to take its first lead of the game at 22-21 which marked the first of six lead changes.

Last Time Wagner Opened NEC 2-0
The last time that the Seahawks won their first two NEC games was in 2010 when Wagner opened with wth three straight wins - over Robert, Bryant and Saint Francis U. The Seahawks wound up 5-6 overall that season and 3-5 in league play.

Long Drives
Through the first five games of the 2014 season, the Wagner offense has produced nine scoring drives of 60 yards or more, five of which have covered 75 yards or more. In addition, the Seahawks have put together five scoring drives of 13 plays or more. Here is a list of the Seahawks' longest scoring drives of the season.

Cornerback Dieudonne Enters Top 10 in Career INTs
The Green & White put Alderson Broaddus game away back on October 4 when fifth-year senior cornerback Jarrett Dieudonne picked off a Wilson Vaughn pass at the Battler 47 and scampered home with the touchdown at the 6:36 mark of the fourth quarter, fashioning the final score at 26-0. Last time out, Dieudonne came up with a big second-half interception to help key the win over SFU. Dieudonne now has three INTs this season and 10 for his career,  which places him T-8th place on the Seahawk career list with Ryan Castellani (1999-2002).

Last OT Game was Also vs. SFU
The last time that Wagner had played an overtime game was also against the Saint Francis U Red Flash. On September 26, 2009, freshman quarterback Nick Doscher led the Seahawks to a 56-48 victory over the Red Flash in triple-overtime at Wagner College Stadium.

46 Points Most Since 2009 vs. Sacred Heart
The 46 points totaled by the Seahawks in the 46-39 double-OT win over SFU are the most points scored by Wagner since October 24, 2009 when the Green & White posted a 49-28 victory over Sacred Heart on Grymes Hill.
Punter Firestone Continues To Shine
The NEC's top punter, a 2013 First-Team All-NEC selection, a 2014 Preseason All-NEC choice, and the Oct. 4 NEC Special Teams Player of the Week, fifth-year senior A.J. Firestone (Mercersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) continues to shine for the Seahawks. He enters the CCSU game ranked No. 1 in the NEC with a 39.8-yard average, with a long of 57 yards. He has had 10 punts downed inside the 20-yard line, with five touchbacks and two punts that were fair caught.

Seven Straight vs. Red Flash
The victory over SFU marked the seventh consecutive win for Wagner over the Red Flash and improves the Seahawks' lead in the all-time series to 21-3. The last time that SFU recorded a victory over Wagner was on November 10, 2007 when the Red Flash earned a 23-20 win in Loretto, PA.

Andrews' Big Passing Day
Known more for his running prowess, left-handed junior quarterback Chris Andrews (Queens. NY/St. Joseph's/Valley Forge Military Academy) hit a slew of big plays through the air in leading Wagner to its 46-39 double-overtime win over Saint Francis U. Andrews went  9-of-17 passing for 165  yards and two touchdowns in relief of starting quarterback Brian Gehring (Tigard, OR/Tigard/Laney JC) after the senior left the game in the third quarter with a left wrist injury.

Three-TD Day for Bryant Watts
Fifth-year senior tight end Bryant Watts (Burlington, NJ/Florence) had a career-high three touchdown receptions in the 46-39 double-overtime victory over Saint Francis U. The 6-5, 245-pound Preseason All-NEC selection, grabbed a nine-yard, first-quarter TD pass from QB Brian Gehring that gave Wagner a 14-0 lead. With 3:10 left in the fourth quarter, he snared a 21-yard TD pass from junior QB Chris Andrews which, following a successful pass from Andrews to TE Ryan Owens on the to-point try, gave Wagner a 32-25 lead. SFU would come back to tie the game at 32-32 with 30 seconds to go in regulation to force overtime.

In the overtime session, Watts caught what would prove to be the game-winning score, a nine-yard touchdown reception from Andrews. Wagner's defense then stiffened on SFU's second-overtime possession, with the Seahawks winning the game on a combination sack of QB Zack Drayer by senior linebackers Max Wassel and Anthony Emmanuele on a 4th-and-10 play from the Wagner nine yard line.

Undefeated 1964 Team Honored on 50th Anniversary
At halftime, the undefeated 1964 Wagner team was honored at midfield in recognition of the historic 10-season that was accomplished under head coach and Hall of Fame member, Robert Hicks. More than 20 former players and coaches were on hand for a pre-game reception and halftime ceremony.
