Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Seahawks begin defense of their 2012 Northeast Conference (NEC) championship by hosting Bryant in a 1:00 pm Homecoming Day affair at Hameline Field on Saturday, September 28 at 1:00 pm in a game that will be streamed live, free of charge, on ESPN3.
The Wagner-Bryant contest marks the second of three appearances for the Seahawks on ESPN3 this season. The September 14 game at Syracuse was seen on ESPN3 as will the November 16 regular season finale at Saint Francis U. Last season, both of Wagner's NCAA FCS Playoff games were carried by ESPN3, 31-20 first round win over Colgate on Nov. 24 and the 24-14 second-round loss at Eastern Washington on Dec. 1.
Describing the action will be veteran play-by-play man
Dave Popkin, former longtime NFL punter
Jeff Feagles will serve as color analyst, while
Matt Martucci be the sideline reporter.
The matchup between the Seahawks and Bulldogs will be the NEC opener for both teams, as 1-3 Wagner will be looking to end a three-game losing streak while 2-1 Bryant is trying to avoid its second consecutive loss.
Hall of Fame Day
Five former Seahawk greats, selected on the merit of their athletic prowess, will be inducted into the Wagner College Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 28 in a 10:00 am ceremony in the VIP Room on the Spiro Center's second floor.
The five former student-athletes who comprise the 2013 Seahawk Hall of Fame class include:
John Chiofalo (Class of 1987, Football),
Tim Kelley (Class of 1984, Football),
Bob Mackisey (Class of 1983, Football),
Susan Moffat, (Class of 1998, Women's Basketball), and
John White (Class of 1994, Baseball).
The Class of 2013 will be publicly recognized at halftime of the 1:00 pm Homecoming Day game vs. Bryant .
About the Seahawks
The defending NEC Champion Seahawks were picked No. 1 in the 2013 NEC Preseason Poll and No. 24 in the 2013 Lindy's Annual Preseason Poll, is 1-3 on the season, having defeated Georgetown 28-21 in the season opener on August 31, followed by losses to Merrimack (42-41), Sept. 6, n the first-ever night game played at Hameline Field on Sept. 6, a 54-0 loss at Football Bowl Championship (FBS) Subdivision member Syracuse (9/14) and most recently, a 49-9 loss at Delaware (9/21).
Dominique Is Unique
The Seahawks are led by 5-9, 205-pound fifth-year senior running back
Dominique Williams Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton/Milford Academy), a tough, sturdy and elusive back, and one who enters the Delaware game ranked fourth all-time in rushing yards (3,614) and third in scoring (258 points). Williams is a 2013
College Sports Journal Preseason Third-Team All-American and a 2012 Preseason All-NEC selection. In 36 games as a Seahawk, Williams has topped the 100-yard rushing mark 23 times.
Sixth All-Time Meeting Between Seahawks & Bulldogs
Bryant and Wagner will be meeting for the sixth time. While the Bulldogs lead the series 3-2, the Seahawks have won two of the last three matchups, including a 31-21 decision last year at Hameline Field. Bryant won the first two meetings in the series, defeating the Seahawks 24-14 on the road in 2008 which gave Bryant its first-ever victory over a Division I team. In 2009, Bryant emerged with a 6-2 victory on a rain-swept afternoon. in Smithfield, RI.

Head Coach Walt Hameline
Now in his 33rd season as head coach,
Walt Hameline, who doubles as the Seahawks' athletic director, owns a sparkling 214-130-2 (.622) record. In 2012, he led the Seahawks to their first-ever Northeast Conference (NEC) Football Championship with a thrilling 23-17 come-from-behind win over Duquesne on November 17, 2012, while clinching a berth in the 2012 D-I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Championship. The win personified the Green & White's as Wagner began the campaign with three straight losses, before winning its next nine games. In defying the odds throughout its triumphant march to the school's first-ever NEC title and the conference's first-ever NCAA FCS win, Wagner compiled a 9-4 record, including a 7-1 mark in the NEC. The Seahawks finished the season ranked 21st in The Sports Network Top-25 Poll and 22nd in the FCS Coaches Poll, marking the first time an NEC team has ended the season with an appearance in both official Top-25 polls. The accolades soon began to pour in for Hameline. After being named the NEC Football Coach of the Year, he was tabbed the 2012 FCS National Coach of the Year by both College Football News (CFN) and the College Sports Journal (CSJ). In the 2012 home opener against Monmouth, Wagner College Stadium was renamed Hameline Field in his honor. On November 6, 2010, Hameline became just the eighth active FCS coach to win 200 games with a 31-20 victory over Monmouth, is 54th on the all-time NCAA wins list (any level) and one of just 36 coaches to win 200 games at one school. The 1987 Kodak National Coach of the Year, after guiding Wagner to a 13-1 record and to the Division III National Championship, Hameline currently ranks sixth in victories among all active FCS coaches.
