Baltimore, MD – The Wagner women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to UMBC this afternoon. With the loss, the Seahawks are now 6-2-1 on the season. UMBC improves to 5-2-2.
The first half remained scoreless as both teams battled each other for field position. The first goal of the game wouldn't come until twelve minutes into the second half, when junior
Alissa Bianculli (Islip, NY/Saint Anthony's) fed a corner kick to sophomore
Alyssa Willard (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional), whose header found the bottom right corner of the net in the 57th minute to make it a 1-0 match.
UMBC answered 22 minutes later, as Amanda Dailey tapped the ball in from three yards out in the 79th minute to even the score at one a piece. The Retrievers found the net once more in the 83rd minute, when Jessy Brown headed the ball into the far right post from 10 yards out to make it a 2-1 game.
During the match, 19 Seahawks saw action. Starting goalkeeper
Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY/John F. Kennedy) made three saves. Wagner was outshot by UMBC 13-9.
The Green & White return action on Friday, September 27th, when they travel to Delaware State for a 7:00 p.m. bout.
