Track & Field Takes Many Top Finishes Over The Weekend

4-19 Larry Ellis Invitational Results
4-20 Greyhound Invitational Results

Staten Island, NY
– In two different meets over the weekend, the Wagner Track & Field teams proved to be in mid-season form, just a week before the Penn Relays.

On Friday, the Seahawks took part in the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted by Princeton University. A school record fell on that day, when James Naglieri crossed the finish line in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The sophomore finished the race in 9:26.12, which was the third fastest time ran in the Northeast Conference (NEC) this season.

Two more season bests took place in the Larry Ellis Invitational by junior Daniel Zaccariello and sophomore Emily Pereira. Zaccariello ran the 800 meters in 1:52.53, which was a mere half of a second off of his school record time. Pereira also had her season best in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:15.59.

The following day, Wagner traveled to Bethlehem, PA to take part in the Greyhound Invitational, hosted by Moravian College.

At Moravian, another school record fell when freshman Samantha Jensen finished first in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.33 seconds. The time by Jensen was also good enough for her to qualify for the ECAC meet in May.

On the Men's side, two hurdlers had top finishes when Alan Kopeloff and Dante Fernandez took second and sixth respectfully in the 110 meter hurdles. The senior Kopeloff finished in 14.94 seconds while the sophomore Fernandez crossed the line in 15.60.

Also for the Men, Saquan Mitchell took second in the 100 meters, finishing in a season best 10.84 seconds, while Matthew Kane finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.85 meters.

The Women had two more second place finishes, with freshman Danielle Iacampo in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and sophomore Nicole Cooper in the triple jump. Iacampo finished her race in a personal best of 11:53.39, while Cooper leaped 11.18 meters in the triple.

Next up, Wagner will head to the Penn Relays, which begin on Thursday, April 25th and run through Saturday, April 27th.
