Easton, PA - Lafayette defeated Wagner 7-0 in non-conference tennis action at the Sullivan Courts.
The loss, coupled with Friday's 6-1 setback to St. Francis Brooklyn drops the Seahawks' record to 0-3 while the Leopards improve to 1-0.
Lafayette won all six singles matches and the doubles point on the afternoon.
At No.1 doubles, the duo of sophomore
Sawyer Fonda (Kelowna, British Columbia / Okanagan Mission Secondary) and senior
Christian Rautenstrauch (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day) collected a hard-fought 8-5 win. Unfortunately, the Leopards won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the point.
During singles play, Fonda dropped a closely contested decision at No. 1 by scores of 7-6 (2), 6-4.
At No. 2, senior Rautenstrauch was felled 6-2, 6-3 while freshman
Sam Flaxman (Avon, CT / Avon) was clipped by scores of 6-4, 6-4 in third flight singles.
Freshman
Devon Flint (Pine Bush, NY / Pine Bush) was bested 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 and sophomore
Christopher Jarema (Pitts Grove, NJ / Schalick) was blanked 6-0, 6-0 at the five spot.
The Seahawks will close out the fall portion of their schedule against Rider on Tuesday, October 15 at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
