RESULTS
New York, NY – Sophomore
James Naglieri ran away with the 5,000 meters as the Wagner Track & Field teams competed at the Metropolitan Indoor Track & Field Championships Thursday and Friday, from the New York City Armory.
The Seahawk Men finished the meet in 8th place out of 14 teams, scoring 40 points in the meet.
Naglieri (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) crossed the line in first place at 14:52.33, besting a school-record set by teammate
Zachary Spector, and just ahead of fifth place finisher
Jacob Malakoff (Tasmania, Australia / Friends) who finished in 15:13.70.
Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood) scored points for the Seahawks in two events, as the senior finished fourth in the 3,000 meters at 8:33.73, and anchoring the fourth place 4x800 relay with
Timothy Mendez,
Darius Moulton, and
Dan Zaccariello which finished in 8:01.74.
Mendez (West Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) and Moulton (Brisbane, Australia / St. Josephs Gregory Terrace) went on to get points for Wagner in individual races. The sophomore Mendez finished fifth in the mile at 4:21.30, while the freshman Moulton was sixth in the 800 meters at 1:55.80. Both were season bests for the underclassmen.
Other competitors that scored for Wagner Men were freshman
Skylar Johnson and senior
Tom Lindley. Johnson was the lone Thursday competitor, clearing 14'3” in the pole vault for sixth place, while Lindley was seventh in the shot put, throwing it 48'3”.
The Seahawk Women scored 19 points in the meet, which was good enough for 10
th place out of 15 teams.
Having a big day was sophomore Kelly Periera (Howell, NJ / Freehold Township). Periera was a fifth place finisher in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:17.41.
Also on the Women's side scoring points was
Alexis Bivona (Staten Island, NY / St. John Villa) as a top finisher for the Seahawks, as the junior scored points in the mile. Bivona finished in fourth place, crossing the finish line in 5:06.98.
Freshman
Samantha Jensen (Ocean Gate, NJ / Central Regional) doubled up in scoring for the Seahawks, finishing the 60 meters in seventh place, while running the 60 hurdles to a fifth place finish. Jensen finished the hurdles in 9.04 seconds, while running the 60 meters in 8.10 seconds.
Also scoring points for the Wagner Women were the 4x400 relay team of
Kayleigh Macchirole,
Morgan Kaisershot, Periera, and
Kelly Dennis. The team ran to an eighth place finish in 4:06.25.
The Seahawks return to action next weekend and will be competing in the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, at the New York City Armory.
