Box Score

WORCESTER, MA –
The Wagner College women's soccer team fell to Holy Cross, 4-1, in the season opener for both teams at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Sunday night.

The Seahawks scored their first goal of 2012 in the 14th minute off the foot of senior Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY) to make it 1-0. The 2011 Northeast Conference (NEC) Second Team selection found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Michelle Kawko (Medford, NY). Vigliotti headed in Kawko's offering, after corralling the rebound off of senior Alyssa Grecco's initial shot (Staten Island, NY).The tally was the 19th of Vigliotti's Green & White career, while the assist was Kawko's first career collegiate point.

The Crusaders answered nine minutes later, when Cassie Muzik knotted the score at 1-1 off a series of passes from Gina Righini and Maura Fox. Muzik struck from the right side of the box, as her shot sailed across and into the goal.

Holy Cross broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when Hannah Earner headed in a deflection from Fox in traffic, putting the Crusaders ahead, 2-1. Muzik added another goal in the 46th minute, before Fox capped the scoring with a late tally to provide the final 4-1 margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Capelli (Manalapan, NJ) recorded two saves in the contest, making her first start since a draw against Manhattan on September 18, 2011. Angell recorded five saves in earning the victory for Holy Cross.

Wagner returns to action on Tuesday, August 21, at 7:00 pm when the Seahawks travel to Poughkeepsie, NY, to face Marist.
