San Diego, CA – After a stellar victory over No. 14 Hawaii earlier in the day, the Wagner water polo team finished day one of the Aztec Tournament 2-0 following a quality 5-4 come-from-behind win over No. 12 Cal State Northridge.
Allowing only one Matador goal in the first quarter, the Seahawks put their first point on the board in the second period following a goal from senior
Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA / North Penn) as Cal State Northridge knocked in another to set the score at 2-1 at the break.
The third quarter saw two more Seahawk goals from sophomores
Kaylee Ginnane (Coronado, CA / Coronado) and
Stacy McGregor (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson) and another Matador goal to tie the game 3-3 headed into the final stanza.
Out of the huddle, Wagner took the lead with a goal from senior
Molly Robinson (Lansdale, PA / North Penn). Following an exclusion drawn by McGregor, Hannings knocked in her second goal of the game to give the Green & White the lead. Cal State Northridge answered back with a lone fourth period goal as Wagner secured the 5-4 victory.
Junior goalkeeper
Laura Karbach (Abington, PA / Germantown Academy) amassed a total of nine blocks, one assist and one steal in the win.
The Seahawks are back in action tomorrow when they face off against No. 11 Indiana at 11:00 AM (EST) and Pacific at 5:15 PM (EST).
