Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team fell to Northeast Conference rival Quinnipiac, 4-1, on Friday afternoon at Hameline Field. With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 4-8-0 overall, and 1-2-0 in NEC play, while the Bobcats improve to 7-3-2, and 3-1-1 in conference play.
Quinnipiac struck for three goals in the opening stanza, beginning in the 3rd minute, when Taylor Healey opened the scoring off an assist from Crystal Burns. Burns added a goal of her own in the 28th minute, and Christina Cesarini added a tally in the 39th minute for a 3-0 halftime score.
Wagner answered back in the 57th minute, when junior
Jackie Nicholas (Rockville Centre, NY/ South Side) for her fifth goal of the season. Nicholas entered play Friday tied for fifth in the NEC in points, and tied for sixth in goals.
The Bobcats stretched the lead back out to three goals in the 76th minute, as Cesarini added her second goal of the afternoon for the final 4-1 margin.
Sophomore
Maureen Vetter (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield) made three saves for the Seahawks. Natalia Grodzki made four saves on five attempts for Quinnipiac before being replaced by Tori Graessle, who did not face a shot on goal in the final 2:31 of play.
Wagner returns to action on Friday, Oct. 12, when the Green & White travel to the Garden State for a 4:00 pm matchup with Fairleigh Dickinson.
