Football Travels To Face Bryant In NEC Matchup on Sat. At 1:00 PM

Wagner (1-2, 1-1 NEC) returns to action when the Seahawks travel to Smithfield, RI to meet Bryant (2-1, 1-0 NEC) in a key conference tussle on Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 pm.

Last Saturday, Wagner stood toe-to-toe with NEC preseason favorite Central Connecticut St. (CCSU) at home before falling 28-24. The Seahawks will be walking into a difficult environment as the Bulldogs are expecting a fervent turnout from the Bryant faithful on Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. Wagner has dropped two straight (21-6 at No. 9 Richmond, 28-24 vs. CCSU) after opening the season with a 38-28 win over conference rivals Saint Francis (PA). Bryant looks for its third-straight victory as the Bulldogs are coming off a resounding 26-6 victory over Sacred Heart last Friday in their conference opener.

WILLIAMS NINTH IN NATION IN RUSHING
Sophomore running back Dominique Williams enters the Bryant game ranked ninth in the nation among all FCS rushers, checking in at 122.0 yards per game on 69 carries, which computes to 5.3 yards per touch. Williams also surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for his career vs. the Blue Devils and now has 1,008 career rushing yards

RECENT HISTORY
Last season, the Seahawks posted a 29-21 victory over Bryant on October 2, 2010 on Grymes Hill. This will be just the second time Wagner has faced Bryant on the road. On October 3, 2009, the Bulldogs outlasted the Seahawks in a defensive struggle, having outlasted the Bulldogs in a defensive struggle, winning by the count of 6-2. The series began when Bryant joined the NEC in 2008 and the Bulldogs have won two out of the three matchups. The Bryant game is the first of two consecutive road tilts for the Seahawks who make the trek to Ithaca, NY to meet Ivy League foe Cornell on Oct. 1.

LAST WEEK
Sophomore running back Dominique Williams cracked the century mark for the sixth time in his 11-game Seahawk career with 141 yards on 27 carries but the Seahawks were playing uphill all day against Central Connecticut St. (CCSU), having fallen behind 14-0 early. Wagner battled back to tie the game at 21-21. In the game's final minutes, Wagner trailed 28-24 late in the game when defensive back Chris Linares came up with big interception with 2:19 left in the fourth quarter, halting a promising Seahawk drive as the Blue Devils held on for a 28-24 win. For Bryant, Preseason All-NEC running back Jordan Brown totaled 334 all-purpose yards in a performance that ranks him second all-time at Bryant, as the Bulldogs cruised past Sacred heart 26-6. In addition to a 53-yard punt return for a touchdown and 38 kickoff return yards, the 5-foot-9 Brown broke free for 248 yards on 38 rush attempts to account for the fourth-highest single-game rushing total in the history of Northeast Conference. In his first full season as a starter last season, Brown led the NEC in rushing yards (1,410) and rushing TDs (15). He has carried 95 times for 497 yards and three scores in three games thus far in 2011.

LAST TIMES THESE TWO TEAMS MET
Staten Island, NY (Oct. 2, 2010) -Quarterback Nick Doscher threw for a career-high 261 yards while leading the team on the ground with 62 yards and matching his career-best with three touchdowns in the air as Wagner posted a 29-21 win at Wagner College Stadium. Doscher, who was limited to just 46 passing yards and 23 on the ground in the 6-2 loss to Bryant in 2009, was 13-for-27 in the air for his 261 yards while completing passes to seven different receivers as three different players scored. Wide receiver David Crawford3 led the way with three catches for a career-best 107 yards fellow wideout Justin Matthews# recorded three catches for 80 yards, including a 62-yard receiving touchdown. Wagner doubled Bryant in total offense by a 460-224 margin, including 298-135 in the air, while controlling the ball for 34:48, compared to just 25:12 for the Bulldogs. Jordan Brown carried the ball 18 times for 102 yards and one touchdown while adding three receptions for 51 yards and a score.
