Hamden, CT – Wagner senior
Kaitlyn Llewellyn (Island Lake, IL / Wauconda) scored the games only goal, lifting the Seahawks' women's soccer team past Quinnipiac, 1-0, today in a key Northeast Conference (NEC) contest.
The victory not only helped the Seahawks stay close in the standings, but also made Wagner history, as their ninth win of the year breaks the program record for wins in a season, dating back to the inaugural year in 1993.
The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Green & White, as they improve to 9-5-2 overall and 3-4-0 in league play. The Bobcats fall to 3-7-1 and 2-3 in the NEC with the defeat.
Wagner dominated play in the opening half, out shooting the Bobcats 10-5, and earning the games first few scoring chances. Following a Quinnipiac foul, sophomore
Amanda Sieferman (Tucson, AZ / Canyon Del Oro) lined a long ball into the box that Llewellyn went up and headed over Jill Kelley to notch her third goal of the year.
Llewellyn's tally would be just one of three shots on goal the Seahawks would get in the 90 minute affair, as Sieferman and junior defender
Katie Keown (Morris Plains, NJ / Morristown) would each record one shot apiece.
The Bobcats weren't without their chances in the second half, testing the Wagner defense and outshooting the Seahawks 11-1. Sophomore keeper
Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY / John F. Kennedy) was up to each task though, making a total of four saves to cap off her league-leading eighth shutout of the year.
Wagner will now come back to Grymes Hill for its final three games of the regular season, beginning with a contest on October 21, against Sacred Heart.
