Water Polo Suffers 9-6 Loss to Marist

Sophomore Chelsea Beck
Villanova, PA – The Wagner College Water Polo team (11-16, 1-1 MAAC) suffered their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) loss of the season to the Marist College Red Foxes (RV) on Saturday. The Seahawks finished their first weekend of Conference action 1-1 with an 8-2 win over Villanova earlier today.

Wagner was never able to take the lead after falling down 2-1 in the first period. The Seahawks scored two goals in the second period, but again Marist maintained their lead with two more goals to make the score 6-4 at halftime. Wagner narrowed the lead to 7-6 in the third period but a 3-0 Red Fox run in the fourth quarter was too much as the Seahawks fell, 9-6.

Sophomore Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA/Wilson) and sophomore Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn) each scored twice in the game. Junior Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) also chipped in with a goal apiece.

Beck extended her scoring streak to eight straight games. She is currently second on the team with 35 goals this season. Beck, French, and Giles all scored in both games on Saturday.

Wagner continues Conference play on Saturday, April 10th at Loudonville, NY. The Seahawks are schedule to play Villanova University and Iona College at 1:00 PM and 5:30 PM respectively.
