Water Polo Falls to No. 8 University of Michigan

Sophomore Chelsea Beck
Bloomington, IN – The Wagner College Water Polo team (10-14, 0-0 MAAC) suffered their worst defeat of the season, 17-2, to the No. 8 ranked University of Michigan Wolverines. Wagner concluded their first day at the Fluid Five Tournament with a 2-1 record, with wins over Mercyhurst College and Gannon University.

The Wolverines controlled the tempo of the game from the start – outscoring the Seahawks 5-1 in the first period and 2-1 in the second period to make the score 7-2 at halftime. Ten unanswered Michigan goals in the second half put the game out of reach and resulted in the 17-2 final.

The 15-goal margin of victory is the largest deficit for the Seahawks this season.

Both sophomore Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA/Wilson) and sophomore Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn) had goals in defeat. Beck extended her scoring streak to five straight games and sits second on the team with 32 goals.

Senior goalie Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon/Fullerton JC) stopped 10 shots for her fifth straight game double-digit saves.

Wagner will compete against host-team No. 16 ranked Indiana University tomorrow at 10:15 AM.
