San Diego, CA – The Wagner College Water Polo team (8-12, 0-0 MAAC) fell to the Cal. State, Bakersfield Roadrunners, 9-4, in their first match up of day-two at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, CA. The Seahawks are 4-5 during their west coast trip with one contest against No. 18 ranked Princeton University remaining.
Wagner had two goals in the opening half, while allowing just three scores to a potent Roadrunner offense, to make the score 3-2 headed into halftime. In the second half, CSUB outscored the Seahawks 6-2, which included exploding for four goals in the third period and two insurance tallies late in the fourth period to secure the 9-4 victory.
For the second consecutive game, four Seahawks scored a goal apiece. Among the goal scorers were sophomore
Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA/Wilson), sophomore
Molly Robinson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), sophomore
Lauren Lovallo (Greenwhich, CT/Greenwich), and junior
Laura Vanderbent (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin).
For Vanderbent, the score is her 30th this season. She currently leads the team in that category. Beck is not fair behind with 27 markers. For Robinson, her score is her 20th career goal, 15th this season.
It is the seventh time this season the Seahawks scored five goals or less in a competition. They are 1-6 in the scenario, with their one win coming against Cal. State, Monterey Bay, 5-2 on March 6th.
Wagner has one game remaining before returning home. They square off against No. 18 Princeton University at 5:15 PM (EST).
