French Scores Twice in Come-From-Behind Win

Northridge, CA – The Wagner College Water Polo team (8-9, 0-0 MAAC) wrapped up their Thursday doubleheader with a 10-8 win over Occidental College. The Seahawks have won three of their last four games and improve to 4-0 lifetime against Occidental.

The Seahawks found themselves trailing after one period, 4-2, but rallied for three goals in the second period to take a 5-2 lead at halftime. Occidental fought right back with a 3-1 third period to make the score 7-6 in their favor headed into the final frame. Sophomore Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn) tied the game at 7-7 with 7:46 remaining in the game.

A quick two-goal expanded the Seahawks lead to 9-7 with 2:59 remaining. Sophomore Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) scored the eventual game winning goal, and French tacked on her second of the day to secure the two-goal cushion.

Senior goalie Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon/Fullerton JC) finished with 15 saves, including six in the final period of the come-from-behind win.

This weekend, Wagner is scheduled to take part in the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, CA. During the two-day event Wagner will face four nationally ranked opponents. On Saturday, the Seahawks face off against the University of California, San Diego (RV) at 11:00 AM (EST) then No. 14 San Diego State University at 5:15 PM (EST). On Sunday, Wagner will compete against Cal. State University, Bakersfield (RV) at 1:30 PM (EST) and No. 18 Princeton University at 5:15 PM (EST).
