Princeton, NJ –
The Wagner College Water Polo team (3-5, 0-0 MAAC) fell to the No. 5 ranked University of Michigan Wolverines, 12-5, and 21-13 to the No. 12 ranked Hartwick College Hawks at the Princeton Invitational on Sunday. The Seahawks finished the two-day event with one win over Gannon University, 13-4.

In their first game against the University of Michigan, the upset-minded Seahawks rallied for three goals in the second period to close a 4-0 lead before halftime. But it was all Wolverines from there, outscoring the Seahawks 6-1 in the third frame and 2-1 fourth quarter for the 12-5 victory.

Reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn) led the scoring for the Seahawks with two goals, while sophomore Chelsea Beck (Reading, PA/Wilson), junior Natalie Pyrz (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area), and junior Laura Vanderbent (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) each added a goal apiece.

It was a shoot-out in Wagner's second game against Hartwick College as the two teams combined for 34 goals. Hartwick took an early 6-3 lead after one quarter, but exploded for nine goals to make the score 15-5 at halftime. The Seahawks did outscore the Hawks 8-6 in the second half, however it was not enough as Wagner suffered their fifth loss of the season.

The shoot-out ties for the second-most goals scored in a single game in Wagner's program history. The College's record is 35 combined goals – which took place in the Seahawks' 18-17 overtime win against Pomona-Pitzer on March 16th, 2008. Wagner's 13 goals scored ties their 2010 single game-high.

Sophomore Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn) had a career-high three goals in defeat. Vanderbent also registered three tallies, joining Hannings as one of three Seahawks to score three or more goals in a single game this season. Junior Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Pyrz each added two goals, while sophomore Molly Robinson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), freshman Monique Martinet (Mission Viejo, CA/Mission Viejo), and French totaled one goal apiece. For Martinet, the goal was her first collegiate score.

This weekend Giles and French tied for the team lead with six goals scored. Pyrz and Vanderbent were not fair behind – each tallying five goals in four games. Beck and French are tied for the team lead with 10 goals each. French currently holds the longest active streak having scored in seven consecutive games.

The Seahawks return to action next week when they travel to Princeton, NJ for the ECAC Championships. Their first game is scheduled for 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 27th against Brown University.
