Lewisburg, PA – The Wagner College Water Polo team (2-2, 0-0 MAAC) earned their second victory of the year with a 10-5 win over the Mercyhurst College Lakers but fell 11-4 to University of Maryland on Sunday. Against the Lakers three Seahawks, sophomores Molly Robinson (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn), and Becca Hannings (Lansdale, PA/North Penn), accounted for two goals apiece in the College's largest win since April 18th, 2009 – a 16-5 win over Villanova University.

After falling into an early 2-1 deficit after the first period, the Seahawks rallied for three goals to make the score 4-4 at halftime. Wagner fought through the third frame, outscoring the Lakers 2-1 to hold a slim 6-5 lead. With the game in the balance, the Seahawks stepped up – outscoring the Lakers 4-0 in the final frame for the 10-5 win.

Beck added two goals to her weekend total. She currently leads the team with five scores. It is the second straight game that French and Robinson found the back of the net for the Seahawks. The duo combined for 31 goals during their rookie campaigns.

Wagner did not have a similar outcome in their second game against the University of Maryland Terps, who entered this weekend ranked 20th in the nation according to the Collegiate Water Polo Association's poll of the 2010 Varsity Top 20.

The Seahawks found themselves down 4-2 after one period. The Terps tacked on three more goals to take a 7-4 lead at halftime. Wagner was shut out in the second half as Maryland added four more scores for the 11-4 final.

Four different Seahawks found the back of the net in defeat. Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Governor Mifflin) scored for the second straight day, while Robinson, French, and Hannings each tallied their second goal of the day.

Wagner returns to action next weekend when the team travels to the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, NJ. Their first game is scheduled for Saturday, February 20th at 12:30 PM.
