Staten Island, NY - After rallying for a come-from-behind victory in the fourth quarter for the second-straight week, the Wagner Seahawks (4-2; 2-1 NEC) return to action today with a Homecoming tussle against Duquesne (4-3; 2-2 NEC). The Green & White will be looking for its fourth-straight victory and coach
Walt Hameline's 200th career win.
THE SERIES/LAST MEETING WITH DUQUESNE
Wagner leads the series by a 3-2 count and has split the last two meetings with the Dukes since the Pittsburgh-based school joined the NEC prior to the 2008 season. Last season, sophomore
Nick Doscher rushed for 132 yards and one score while going 22-of-33 for 203 yards in the air while helping the Seahawks escape with a 22-16 double-overtime win. Down 7-0, sophomore
David Lopez executed a pair of chip-shot field goals before Wagner added a two-point score on a team safety to take an 8-7 lead early in the third period. Doscher extended the lead out to 14-7 game with an 18-yard touchdown run. Duquesne would come back to tie the game up at 14-14 with just over six minutes remaining to send the game into overtime. After the teams traded field goals, the Seahawk defense stopped the Dukes and senior
Jeremy Martinez scored on a six-yard touchdown to ice the win.
HAMELINE SHOOTING FOR 200
Walt Hameline, who is in his 30th season with a record of 199-112-2 (.639), is just one win shy of 200 for his illustrious career. Hameline registered his 22nd winning season (out of 29) in 2009 by leading the Green & White to a solid 6-5 bounce-back season after going 3-8 in 2008. Hameline also boasts four career .500 campaigns and just three sub-.500 records while leading the school to its only National Championship in 1987 when Wagner went 13-1 while defeating Dayton in the title tilt.

SCOREBOARD TO BE DEDICATED
The Lebovitz Family Scoreboard will be dedicated at 12:30 pm before the start of the game against Duquesne. Thanks to the generosity of former Wagner College offensive lineman
Marc Lebovitz, now a highly successful New Jersey businessman, Wagner College Stadium is the beneficiary of a striking new state-of-the-art scoreboard.
Lebovitz, a member of the Seahawks' 1987 Division III National Championship football team, graduated in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in business management. He is a supporter of Wagner College's Chai Society, the Sal Alberti Scholarship Fund, the Joe Jilts Memorial Alumni Golf Outing and the Seahawk Club.
The new scoreboard is manufactured by Eversan Scoreboards, considered to be one of the nation's leading providers of athletic scoreboards. Standing almost 30 feet high and 32 feet wide, the new scoreboard will be able to display color video as well as game statistics.
HOMECOMING STREAK ON THE LINE
Wagner has won four-straight homecoming affairs, last losing on October 22, 2005 to CCSU by a 38-34 score. Since that game, the Seahawks have won by an average of 13.0 ppg in their annual Homecoming tussles.
LAST WEEK
After falling behind 14-13 early in the third period, the Seahawks made another patented fourth-quarter rally fueled by a stingy defense. Senior
Stefen Gage intercepted a pass early in the fourth quarter, leading to a 46-yard Lopez field goal. Then following an errant snap on fourth down, the G&W took over on the Red Flash nine-yard line and senior
Eric Foxworth needed just two attempts to reach paydirt. However a bad hold on the PAT attempt allowed SFPA to remain in striking distance at 22-14. Once again Gage was up to the challenge intercepting his second pass of the game. After a three-and-out senior
Frantz Placide pounced on a muffed punt, allowing Wagner to escape Loretto with a 22-14 victory.
FOXWORTH CARRIES THE LOAD
Foxworth had a monster game against Saint Francis (PA) carrying the ball 30 times for 140 yards and two scores, all of which were career-highs for the Trenton native. Foxworth started the game off with a career-high 32-yard scamper and never looked back while eclipsing his season total of 133 yards, which was accrued on 38 carries. For his career, the Globe Community College transfer has 440 yards on 72 carries (6.1 ypc) and 10 catches for 67 yards.
RUNNING GAME GETTING THE JOB DONE
Wagner has managed to rank second in the NEC with 172.2 rushing yards per game despite the fact that preseason All-NEC pick
Dominique Williams has been sidelined all year. Running backs Foxworth, Martinez and sophomore
Torian Phillips all have had at least one game with 100 yards or more as the trio have combined for 739 yards on the ground (4.8 ypc). The attack has been bolstered by Doscher, who has a team-leading 308 yards on the ground. Doscher, Foxworth and Martinez have all led the team in rushing twice with Phillips pacing the unit once.
CLOSE GAMES
Wagner's win over SFPA was its third-straight victory by eight points or less and the sixth-straight dating back to last season. Since losing a 45-42 decision to Stonehill in the season opener a year ago, the Seahawks are 7-1 in games decided by eight points or less with the only loss coming at Bryant by a 6-2 count (10/3/09). Additionally Wagner has won all three overtime games since the start of 2009.
DEFENSIVE REVIVAL
A year after having the worst defense in the NEC, Wagner has arguably the top unit in the nine-team NEC. Coach
Malik Hall's unit is yielding a NEC-best 276.8 yards per game, compared to 392.2 ypg a year ago. The defense has locked it down in the fourth quarter of the three recent victories. Additionally in each of the last three games the defensive has six takeaways in the fourth period while allowing a combined 72 yards and zero points in the wins over Bryant, Georgetown and SFPA.
LOPEZ NAMED FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS POTW
Lopez was named
The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Saturday, Oct. 9 after becoming only the second kicker in NEC history to connect on a field goal of at least 54 yards. His career-best boot came with six seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Wagner's win at Georgetown, tying the score up at 13-13. He also connected on all three of his field goal attempts, two of which came in high-pressure situations. The 54-yard boot, the longest by a NEC kicker since
Piotr Czech's league-record 56-yard triple in 2007, tied the game at 13-13 and forced overtime. Lopez later gave the Seahawks a 16-13 lead with a 24-yarder in the first overtime. His first field goal was a 34-yard kick that put the Green & White on the scoreboard with 4:25 left in the third quarter. Lopez also made his lone extra-point attempt to total 10 points.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
On the year, Lopez is 8-for-10, highlighted by a career-best 54 yarder in the double-overtime win at Georgetown. He has also converted all three kicks from 40 yards or longer and is for third in the NEC with his eight makes. As a freshman Lopez went just 4-for-13 a year ago, connecting a long of 32 yards.
ODD STAT
Lopez is 4-for-4 on kicks 40 yards or longer but has missed a 31 yarder and 27 yarder, the later which was blocked, and missed two extra points while having another one blocked.
GAGE HAVING ALL-STAR SEASON
Gage had a monster game in earning NEC Defensive Player of the Week Accolades against Georgetown, but it was his performance against Saint Francis (PA) that might have been more valuable to the Green & White in the pursuit for a NEC crown. The senior defensive back from Syracuse had two crucial interceptions in the fourth quarter of Wagner's 22-14 come-from-behind win over the Red Flash. On the year, he is second in the NEC with a team-leading four interceptions for 66 yards and one touchdown. His four picks match the entire team's output from a year ago. He also leads all Seahawk defensive backs with 34 tackles and has two forced fumbles.
PLACIDE NAMED NEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior
Frantz Placide was named the NEC Special Teams Player Of The Week following his outstanding performance in the Seahawks' 22-14 victory over th Red Flash. The Sunshine State native made a pair of fourth-quarter special teams plays that sealed the Wagner's road victory over SFPA. He logged a huge tackle for a loss (25 yards) and recovered a fumble, both coming on punt coverage. Placide, a preseason all-NEC return specialist, also brought back two kickoffs for 51 yards, including a 30-yarder that set up Wagner's second scoring drive.
For Placide, it his fifth career NEC Special Teams Player of the Week citation over the last two years and the first of this season. The Preseason All-American selection was an All-NEC First Team pick a year ago as a return specialist. On the year, Placide has 21 tackles, four pass break-ups, four pass deflections, 3.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles while averaging 20.3 yards per return.
SOME GOOD, SOME BAD
While Wagner stands in good shape with a 4-2 record (2-1 NEC), that mark could be a little better if not for some alarmingly constrasting stats. The Seahawks are second in the league in total offense (371.5 ypc) but are just sixth in the scoring with 22.0 ppg in large part to having the second worst Red Zone conversion rate in the league at 63.6 percent (14-of-22; 10 TDs). Last week, Wagner converted just 3-of-5, however the week prior the Seahawks were good on all three opportunities, kicking a pair of field goals and scoring a touchdown. Against Bryant, Wagner fumbled twice inside the five-yard line while having a field goal blocked. Those fumbles have also contributed to a NEC-worst - 0.67 turnover rate. Also, the Seahawks has commited a league-worst 83.8 penalty yards.
DOSCHER GETTING THE JOB DONE
Doscher had two passing plays of 40 or more in the win over Bryant and now has five on the season, after notching just four in his first season at the helm of the Green & White. In 2010, he is 84-of-159 for 1148 yards with 10 touchdowns while picking up a team-best 308 yards on the ground with one rushing touchdown. All told he is leading the league in total offense, averaging 243.8 yards per game. Last season, he passed for just 1,330 yards and eight scores while also throwing nine interceptions.
CRAWFORD HAS HUGE SECOND HALF
Junior
David Crawford had a huge second half in the win over Georgetown, hauling in eight passes for 77 yards - including seven for 69 yards in the fourth quarter and overtime combined - after catching just one pass for negative two years in the first quarter. This performance comes on the heels of a career-high 107 yards receiving on three catches in the victory over Bryant. On the season, the big-play Texas native has 20 catches for 312 yards while averaging 15.6 yards per catch.
DAVIS DOMINATES
There has been no question that senior
Keith Davis is the leader of the defense. He has established himself as one of the top linebackers in the NEC, recording team-highs in total tackles (42), assisted stops (30) and is second with 12 solo stops and 4.5 tackles for loss while his 8.4 tackles per game are sixth in the league. The Keystone State native has also paced the squad in stops in two of his five Wagner games.
COLLINS RETURNS STRONG
After being plagued by injuries a year ago while catching just 15 passes for 232 yards and one score, senior
Tyrone Collins has proved last year was a mirage, going off for three touchdowns, among his 16 catches for 221 yards in the first five games while averaging 14.0 yards per catch. He showed his versatility by throwing a 37-yard pass to his fellow wideout Crawford. Collins has also returned four kicks for an average of 21.2 ypr and nine punts for an average of 5.9 ypr while not fumbling once.
MATTHEWS DEVELOPING INTO BIG-PLAY THREAT
Senior
Justin Matthews has developed into one of the big guns in the Wagner offense as a senior after failing to catch a pass in each of his first two seasons. Matthews had a modest 15 catches for 186 yards and a score as a junior before breaking out in 2010 . The Garden State native is tied for tops in on the team with 20 catches for a team-best 367 yards (18.4 ypc) and four touchdowns while averaging ranking second in the NEC with 61.2 yards per game. He also has touchdown receptions of 88 yards and 62 yards to his credit. Matthews paced the squad against Assumption, collecting a team-best seven catches for 68 yards before corralling a career-best 88-yard TD in the win over Cornell. He then hauled in three receptions for 52 yards against RMU with a score before notching three more catches for 80 yards and a score in the win over Bryant. Against Georgetown, he scored the only Green & White TD on a 15-yard reception from Doscher before finishing with three catces for a team-high 45 yards at SFPA.
BALANCED ATTACK
Wagner has picked up 1037 yards on the ground and 1192 in the air while ranking fifth in the league with 2,229 yards and is third with an average of 5.3 yards per play.
