Head football coach
Walt Hameline now has 199 victories in his storied career at Wagner College and will go for number 200 on Saturday, October 23 at 1:00 pm against Duquesne in the school's annual Homecoming Game.
After stopping Saint Francis (PA) for a three-and-out on the game's first drive, Wagner immediately went to work on offense, marching 78 yards on 10 plays while taking 3:54 off the clock. On first-and-20 from his own 12-yard line, Foxworth busted off a career-best 32-yard run. Then facing a third-and-long sophomore quarterback
Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY / Moore Catholic) found senior
Justin Matthews (Hillside, NJ / Hillside) for a 20-yard strike to the Red Flash 35-yard line. Later in the drive Doscher hooked up with sophomore
Matt Connelly (Plymouth, PA / Wyoming Valley West) for a 14-yard touchdown pass to make it 6-0 Seahawks with 9:31 to go in the opening quarter.
The Green & White defense then forced two-straight three-and-outs before the Red Flash offense awoke following a turnover. Saint Francis (PA) took over at the Wagner 25-yard line and needed just three plays to assume the lead at 7-6 as Daniel Conley scored on a one-yard plunge, before Josh Thiel booted home the extra point with 1:56 to play in the first quarter.
The Seahawks immediately reclaimed the lead on the next possession, going 62 yards on 12 plays while taking 5:39 off the clock. Doscher connected with senior
Tyrone Collins (Geneva, NY / Geneva) and junior
David Crawford (Carrollton, TX / Hebron) on pass plays of 21 and 20 yards, respectively, as The Green & White marched down to the one-yard line before Foxworth hit paydirt for his first-ever Wagner touchdown. Following the
David Lopez (So., Plantation, FL / American Heritage) extra point, the Seahawks led 13-7 with 11:17 left in the opening half.
After Saint Francis (PA) was forced to punt, the Green & White appeared poised to add to the lead driving down to the Red Flash five-yard line. However, Matt Parker had other ideas, intercepting a Doscher pass at the one-yard line and returning it to midfield.
Despite outgaining Saint Francis (PA) 248-71, including 119-47 on the ground and 129-24 in the air, going 6-for-8 on third-down conversions and allowing the Red Flash just three first downs the Green & White had just a six-point lead at intermission.
After forcing Wagner to punt on the first drive of the third period, Saint Francis (PA) took over on the Seahawk 46-yard line. Following a one-yard rush, John Kelly found Anthony Howze for a 10-yard reception before hitting Omar Winston on a play-action pass for a 35-yard touchdown. After the extra point, the Red Flash led 14-13 in the early part of the third period.
Wagner was forced to put on its ensuing possession and Saint Francis (PA) took over at its own one-yard line and marched into Seahawk territory, getting all way to the 37-yard line before the momentum swung. Junior
Quintin Anderson (Rochester, NY / Penfield) intercepted a Kelly pass and returned it 30 yards to the Green & White 49-yard line.
Following a Wagner punt, the defense again rose to the occasion as senior
Stefen Gage (Syracuse, NY / Henninger) intercepted a pass at the Red Flash 47-yard line before returning it seven yards. This time the offense would come through as Lopez, the reigning FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week calmly drilled a 46-yard field, putting the Seahawks back in front 16-14 with 9:55 remaining in the game. He is now 8-for-10 on the year on field-goal attempts, including 4-for-4 on kicks from at least 40 yards.
Saint Francis (PA) was unable to answer and snapped the ball over the punter's head on fourth down on the next possession, allowing Wagner to take over at the Red Flash nine-yard line. Foxworth took over from there needing two carries to score his second touchdown of the game. However the extra point was missed due to a bad hold, keeping it a one-possession game at 22-14.
Gage then intercepted his second pass of the quarter on the ensuing drive. After taking some time off the clock senior
Kyle Muir (Spencerport, NY / Spencerport) boomed a punt to the Red Flash 13-yard line. However the kick was muffed and senior
Frantz Placide (Miami, FL / Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) took over, allowing the Green & White to run out the clock and escape scenic Loretto, PA with a victory.
Wagner dominated the game statistically, collecting 340 yards of total offense, including 212 on the ground, while the Seahawks, who are the top-ranked defense in the NEC, limited Saint Francis (PA) to just 214 yards. Once again, in the fourth quarter the defense came up huge, intercepting two passes while recovering a fumble and allowing just 31 yards.
Gage, the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week, had two more interception to go along with seven tackles while classmate #T.J. Czeski# (Amsterdam, NY / Amsterdam) notched a team-best 12 tackles.

For Saint Francis (PA), Scott Lewis broke the NEC record for tackles in a career and had 19 for the game while Parker amassed 24 total tackles, forced a fumble and had an interception.
Offensively, running back Jude Yearwood (Elkridge, Md./Howard) had a season-high 99 yards on 24 carries while Kelly was 9-of-21 for 103 yards and one touchdown.
