Quakers Drop Wagner, 4-0

Box Score

Philadelphia, PA –
The University of Pennsylvania handed the Seahawks their ninth loss of the season, as the Quakers used their home field advantage to shutout Wagner, 4-0, in tonight's mid-season non-conference matchup in Philadelphia, PA.

The Quakers jumped out to an early lead, netting their first goal of the game in just the seventh minute of play when Ursula Lopez-Palm scored her third goal of the season with a shot to the far post past Seahawk goalkeeper Jen Emigholz (Staten Island, NY).

Penn's relentless pressure paid off again in the final minutes of the first half with Kerry Scalora receiving a long pass from Laura Oliver to net her fourth of the year and give the home team a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Penn outshot the visiting Seahawks 16-1 in the first 45 minutes, as Emigholz made a career-high 10 saves to keep it a two-goal game. Head coach Mike Minielli gave the junior keeper a break entering the second half, as freshman Katie Marcy (Bellmore, NY) came in for relief.

The keeper change didn't affect the Quakers though, as again their constant movement transitioned into goals, with Marin McDermott scoring her second and third goals of the season seven minutes apart.
Penn's Sarah Friedman also recorded the primary assist on both McDermott's goals.

The Quakers managed another 16-shot half, capping off the night outshooting the Seahawks 32-4. Midfielders Kristin Cahill (Woonsocket, RI) and Jessica Panarella (Staten Island, NY), along with forward Jackie Nicholas (Rockville Centre, NY) were the only members of the Green and White to produce a shot on goal.

With the loss, the Seahawks drop to 5-9-2 on the year, while Penn moves to 6-6-0.

Wagner opens up its last three-game home stand of the year on Friday, October 15, hosting Bryant at 3:00 pm.
