Staten Island, NY- The Seahawks' soccer team dropped its Northeast Conference (NEC) opener late this afternoon to the Long Island University (LIU) Blackbirds, 3-0 at Wagner College Stadium . The Green & White fell behind in the beginning of the first half and were unable to answer as the Blackbirds tacked on two additional goals.
LIU (5-3-0, 1-0 NEC) opened the scoring of the "Battle of the Boroughs" in the 11th minute, when Ariana Calderon scored on a rebound from in front of the net. The Blackbirds added a goal in the 24th minute to extend their lead to 2-0.
Wagner ramped up its attack in the second half, outshooting LIU by a 13-10 margin but the Seahawks were unable to poke home a goal.

Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and sophomore
Terryn Marette (Chevy Chase, MD / Bethesda-Chevy Chase) each registered three shots on goal for the Green & White. Following close behind with two shots was senior
Dominique Bonura (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ / Immaculate Heart Academy) while four Seahawks had one shot apiece.
The Blackbirds bested the Seahawks in shots 22-17 and led in corner kicks 4-2. Junior
Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT / Brookfield) finished with seven saves while her counterpart Jennifer Bannon had 13.
Wagner (1-7-0, 0-1 NEC) looks to bounce back on Sunday, September 27 when the Green & White host Lafayette in a non-conference match at 1:00 pm.
