Staten Island, NY - Despite holding a 17-10 edge in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, the Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Saint Peter's College in the season opener for both teams at Wagner College Stadium.

In the 18th minute of the first-half, Wagner had a would-be goal taken off the board when junior midfielder Jessica Balling's (Seaford, NY/MacArthur) in front of the net shot was negated due to a hand ball infraction on the Seahawks.

The Peahens took advantage of two of their 10 shots on goal when Dana Grimes found the back of the net in the 35th minute of the first half from 10 yards out on the left wing. Late in the second half, Courtney Sundstrom scored off a free kick from 15 yards out to seal the win. 

In goal, Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield) went the entire 90 minutes while recording three saves. 

Wagner (0-1) returns to action Friday, September 4 when they travel to New Haven, CT to face the Yale University Bulldogs. Start time is set for 7:00 pm.
