Wagner Drops Spring Opener To Fordham 7-0

Marcelo Ensignia claimed his first career doubles' win

Wagner (0-9) dropped its spring opener at Fordham (5-5) by a 7-0 count at the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. Despite the loss, the duo of junior John LeBlanc (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) and freshman Marcelo Ensignia (Madrid, Spain / Saint Andrew's Academy) claimed the first Wagner doubles' win of the year, 8-3 at the No. 1 spot.

Fordham opened the match by winning all six singles matches, all in straight sets. Dallas Harting won at No. 1 singles over LeBlanc 6-2, 6-1. Brandon Abbatiello blanked Ensignia 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. At third singles, Kevin Maloney bested sophomore Yirmeyah Beckles (Cincinnati, OH / Aquinas College) 6-1, 6-0. Junior Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) was felled by Sotiris Georgiou 6-0, 6-0. At the five spot, senior Sheldon Wilson (Albany, NY / Albany) was blanked by Pat Tool 6-0, 6-0. Peter Slucky shut out freshman Robert Santana (North Haledon, NJ / Manchester Regional) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles, rounding out singles' play.

Fordham won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim seventh and final point of the match.
