Staten Island, NY - Wagner injected itself into the NEC Championship race with a 23-17 double-overtime victory at Duquesne that improved the Seahawks' record to 5-3 on the season, 4-1 in Northeast Conference play. In registering its third straight victory, it sets up a showdown with first-place Central Connecticut St. The Blue Devils knocked off Albany 31-29 and will bring a record of 7-1 and a conference mark of 5-0 into the contest.
Seahawks in Top-15 in Nation in Net Punting, Scoring Offense
Thanks in large part to the 41-yard punting average of junior
Kyle Muir (Spencerport, NY/Hudson CC), who is 15th nationally in pnting average, the Seahawks are ranked fourth in the nation and No. 1 in the NEC in net punting (38.72). Wagner is also 13th nationally in scoring offense (33.5). which is also tops in the NEC.

Doscher Named NEC Rookie of the Week for Fourth Time this Season

Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and fourth time this season for his efforts in leading Wagner (5-3, 4-1) to a 23-17 double-overtime victory at Duquesne last Saturday.
Once again Doscher did it through the air and on the ground in leading the Seahawks to a double-overtime road win over Duquesne that pulled Wagner, winners of three straight, to within one game of first place in the NEC standings. The 6-1, 220-pound Doscher accounted for 325 yards of total offense and scored one touchdown in the 23-17 win. Doscher went 23-of-33 passing for 203 yards and recorded his third 100-yard rushing performance this season. He carried 26 times for 132 yards (5.1 avg.).
About the Blue Devils
The Blue Devils won for the sixth straight week by downing Albany, 31-29. last week. Head coach Jeff McInerney claimed his first victory over Albany in four seasons at the helm. Central (7-1) is off to its best start and longest winning streak since the 1973 season. Central finished that year 9-1. The win over UA is he eighth straight home victory for Central. The Blue Devils are 16-2 at home under McInerney. Senior running back James Mallory rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Mallory had scoring runs of 79, 14 and 1. Twelve of Mallory's rushes on the day went for at least five yards. His three touchdowns give him 184 career points, good for second place all-time at Central. Senior quarterback and Staten Island native Aubrey Norris finished the day 10-of-19 passing for 184 yards and one interception. It was just the fourth interception of his career. Junior wide receiver Josue Paul caught five balls for 131 yards, his second 100+ yard game of the season. He now has 482 yards receiving on the season. Junior defensive back Dominique Rose had a career day for theBlue Devils leading the team with 11 tackles (six solo), including one for a loss, and an interception. Rose, a second-team all conference selection last season, picked off Albany quarterback Vinny Esposito on a 4th-and-2 with under a minute remaining to seal the two-point win.
