Vassallo’s Goals Not Enough As Seahawks Fall To Quinnipiac, 4-2

junior Briana Vassallo
Hamden, CT- A pair of second half goals from junior Briana Vassallo (Saddle Brook, NJ / Paramus Catholic) weren't enough for the Seahawks to stage a comeback in this afternoon's Northeast Conference (NEC) contest at Quinnipiac. The Bobcats eclipsed the Green & White by a 4-2 count. With the loss Wagner drops to 1-12-2 (0-6-1 NEC) on the season.

The Bobcats were first to get on the board, scoring in the 18th minute of the first half off a corner kick that was headed in by Jillian Strassner. Quinnipiac then extended its lead to 2-0 in the 36th minute on a Shauna Edwards shot from in front of the net.

Four minutes into the second half the Bobcats brought its lead to 3-0 when Amber Sidoti cashed in on a crossing pass from in front of the net.

In the 60th minute, Wagner mounted a comeback when freshman Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ / Pascack Hills) sent a long pass from the defensive side to Vassallo, about thirty yards from the goal. Vassallo had a one-on-on breakaway on net and her low kick from the right side slipped through the goalie's hands into the lower left corner.

Ten minutes later the Seahawks notched another goal when freshman Julie Vigliotti (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) passed the ball from mid-field to a wide open Vassallo along the right side. Vassallo finished the play by sending the ball high into the upper left corner of the goal.

Unfortunately for the Green & White, this strong offensive attack wouldn't be enough as the Bobcats deposited an insurance goal in the 74th minute on Lindsay Oliveri's shot from in front of the goal, bringing the score to 4-2.

This lead would be enough for the Bobcats to take the win as the remainder of the game was played without incident. In goal for the Seahawks, sophomore Jen Emigholz (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) posted 11 saves while her counterpart Elizabeth Cook had three.

Wagner returns to action on Friday, October 23rd when they host Sacred Heart University at 3:00PM.
