Men’s Tennis Drops Season-Opener To Lafayette

The Wagner men's tennis team lost its season-opener to Lafayette 7-0 at the Wagner Tennis Courts. The Leopards are now 1-0 while the Seahawks are 0-1.

At No. 1 singles, junior Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) lost to Matt McGranaghan 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Yirmeyah Beckles (Cincinnati, OH / Aquinas College) dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Doug Gallagher at second singles. Senior Sheldon Wilson (Albany, NY / Albany) fared no better at No. 3 singles, losing 6-1, 6-0 to Steven Benezra. At No. 4 singles, freshman Robert Santana (North Haledon, NJ / Manchester Regional) was shut out 6-0, 6-0 by James Sparacio. Classmate Max Gardner (Wilton, CT / Wilton) also was shut out at No. 5 singles by James Murphy.

Lafayette won No. 6 singles by default and claimed the doubles' point by winning both matches.
