Staten Island, NY – The Wagner soccer team (0-1-0) dropped its season opener to La Salle University (2-0-0) by a 2-1 score this afternoon at sunny Wagner College Stadium.
Despite dropping a hard-fought game to the Explorers, the Green & White battled throughout before eventually tying the game at 1-1. Unfortunately, the joy would be short-lived as La Salle scored in the game's final minutes to claim the 2-1 win.
Just 13:20 into the game, La Salle's Alex Conley made a breakaway move to score from five yards out to give the Explorers the early 1-0 lead.
Wagner rallied to tie the game in the 79th minute of the second half when
Amanda Ozarowski's(Pasadena, MD/ Northeast) blast from ten yards out, off a centering pass from junior by
Kendra White (West Kingston, RI/ South Kingston) made it 1-1.
In the game's 88th minute La Salle would score what would be the eventual game-winning goal. Lauren Barker's shot from ten yards out would sneak in to make it 2-1 La Salle.
Despite the loss, senior
Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/ Satellite) was outstanding collecting 10 saves on the day. La Salle's Melissa Sanger earned the win, making four saves.
The Seahawks will travel to Delaware State on Wednesday, September 3 at 5 pm.
