Staten Island, NY - Wagner defeated Saint Francis (PA) 6-1 yesterday after falling to Delaware State on Saturday. With the split, the Seahawks are now 2-9 and 2-2 in the Northeast Conference.
Junior Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) got things rolling with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Roxy Ionescu for her third win of the year. Senior Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) won 6-2, 6-4 over Eva Keresztes at No. 2 singles, matching Frazza with her team-best third win of the year. At third singles, Sarah Sproviero picked up her first collegiate win with a wild 6-2, 3-6, 14-12 decision against Danielle Gauthier. Sophomore Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles over Juliana Gustafson while freshman Joanna Ciavarella won by forfeit at No. 6 singles.
Junior Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) lost 6-1, 6-3 to Ashley Zalewski at No. 4 singles but rebounded to combine with LeCureux for the 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Frazza and Crane won by an 8-0 shutout at first doubles to capture the doubles' point for Wagner.
Against Delaware State, Wagner lost 7-0 for the second time in as many weeks to the Hornets.
The Green & White returns to action on Wednesday, April 9 when they host Rider.
