Box Score
Poughkeepsie, NY - Alexandra Tomlinson's (Telford, PA/Souderton) four goal effort was not enough to lift the Wagner water polo team to victory as the Seahawks fell to the St. Francis (NY) Terriers 10-8 in their first conference game.
The Green & White jumped onto the board fast with Tomlinson netting the first two goals of the game, helping Wagner to an early 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. But in the second, the Terriers came crashing, netting four goals to the Seahawk's one and putting Wagner on the wrong end of a 4-3 half-time score.
The Seahawks stormed out of the gate in the third and netted their first second half goal within the first 31 seconds of play and were able to tie the game at fives at the end of the third quarter. It was a back and fourth final stanza of play with the Seahawks and Terriers exchanging goals at the opening of the quarter, but it was in the final minutes of the game that St. Francis was able to pull away with the victory.
Senior Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/University of San Diego HS) netted two goals for the Seahawks while dishing out one assist. Seniors Yvette Viramontes (Montebello, CA/Rio Hondo) and Amber McMichael (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Junior goalie Dru Murphy (Keller, TX/Slippery Rock) stopped five shots and had one steal in her second collegiate start in net.
Wagner takes on the Siena Saints at 2:30 for the second game of the two game day.
