Final Stats
Poughkeepsie, NY - Marist used a four-goal outing from Ryan Sharkey and some fine goalkeeper play from Terrence Dempsey and Sam Altiero in posting a 15-3 MAAC victory over Wagner in the Seahawks' penultimate game of the season.
The Seahawks will conclude the 2008 campaign at Holy Cross on Tuesday in a 3:30 pm contest.
Junior midfielder Brian Poissant (Manlius, NY/ Fayetteville-Manlius) and junior attackman Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/ Novi) scored first quarter goals for Wagner as the Seaahwks and Red Foxes were tied 2-2 early. But Zachary Wash put Marist ahead for good at the 5:19 mark of the opening quarter and the Red Foxes were never headed.
Freshman attackman Will Macumber (Manorville, NY/ Eastport South Manor) registered a fourth quarter goal for the Seahawks and sophomore goalie Matthew McVie (Westbury, NY/ L.I. Lutheran) recorded 13 saves in making his fourth consecutive start.
Marist out-shot Wagner 38-33 and led in ground balls 23-20 while winning 13-of-20 faceoffs. The Seahawks had some chances but were undone by their extra-man unit as they were 0-for-5 on EMOs while Marist was a perfect 3-for-3 on EMOs.
With the win, Marist improved to 3-13 on the season, 3-5 in the MAAC, while Wagner fell to 0-14, 0-8 in MAAC play.
