Seahawks Fall in Game One of Doubleheader at Yale, 11-3

April 23, 2008

Stats

New Haven, CT - The Wagner College softball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader at William O. DeWitt, Jr. Family Field this afternoon to the Yale University Bulldogs, 11-3, in six innings. They now move to 25-17 overall on the season.

Despite a two-run double from sophomore Kate Eshelman (Reno, NV/McQueen) and a one-run two-bagger from freshman outfielder Hailey Corthell (Reno, NV/Reno) the Seahawks couldn't flip the switch on their powerful offense to get even with the host Bulldogs who exploded for a four-run fifth inning followed by a five-run sixth that extended their 2-1 lead at the time and put the game out of the Green & White's reach as the game was called upon the eleventh run scored on account of run differential.

After Seahawk starting pitching Eshelman was hit up for the tough four-run Yale inning she was relieved by senior Ami Iwicki (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) who wouldn't fare any better as she was credited with giving up five runs on six hits with a strikeout.

Eshelman would be tagged with all eight of the other runs. She was also pegged with the loss and moves to 8-5 on the year.

The Seahawks quickly regroup and try to make their New England excursion this afternoon a split when they take on Yale in the second game of the weekday doubleheader.
