Manhattan Spoils First Home Night Game In School History

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Seahawks were defeated by Manhattan 15-0 at Richmond County Bank Ballpark in the first home night game in school history. The Green & White will now begin Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Friday at 3 pm when they host LIU.

Wagner falls to 7-12 while the Jaspers are now 10-11-1.

Manhattan scored in each of the first three innings before putting up a nine-spot in the fifth inning to take a commanding 14-0. The Jaspers concluded the game's scoring with one run in the eighth. The Seahawks had their chances rapping out nine hits but could not capitalize, stranding 12 runners on the base paths.

Sophomore Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) recorded his third multi-hit game of the year, going 2-4 with a pair of singles, while classmate Kevin Payne (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) also reached base safely twice with a hit and a walk. Freshman Ryan Nemoyten (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) rapped out his first collegiate hit as eight different Seahawks hit safely.

Five different Jaspers recorded two hits, led by Kevin Nieto, who went 2-4 with three runs and three RBI to highlight a 15-hit night for Manhattan.

Brian Pendergast struck out three over 2.0 innings while picking up the win and improving to 1-2 on the year. Four other Jaspers held the Seahawks scoreless over 7.0 innings, fanning eight.

Freshman LHP FJ Lucchetti (Brick, NJ / Brick) fell to 0-1 after giving up five runs, four earned, with one strikeout over 2.2 innings in his first collegiate start.

Pitching well in relief were senior LHP Chris Marino (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan), freshman LHP David Rees (Staten Island, NY / Xavier) and junior RHP Dave Gerhardt (Worcester, MA / Bancroft). The trio struck out three over the final 4.2 innings of the game, while holding Manhattan to just one run.
