Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's tennis team was edged by Rider 4-3 in non-conference tennis action. The two teams split the six singles' matches but the Broncs captured the doubles' point and ultimately the match.
The Seahawks are now 2-10 while Rider is 2-8.
Junior Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) won her second-straight match and her team-best fourth of the year with a convincing 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kristina Paich at No. 1 singles. Classmate Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) collected her second win of the year dominating Amanda Matticks 6-2, 6-0 at third singles. At No. 5 singles, freshman Joanna Ciavarella captured her first collegiate victory 6-2, 6-3 against Sabrina Kahler.
At second singles, freshman Sarah Sproviero lost 6-1, 6-0 to Danielle Morse. Sophomore Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) was felled 6-1, 6-4 by Sabrina Govindarajan at fourth flite singles. Alyssa Markovits shut out freshman Vanessa Fagundes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Sproviero and LeCureux defeated Matticks and Govindarajan 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. However that would be the only win of the day during the doubles competition as Rider captured No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the point and the match.
