Final Stats
Staten Island, NY - Despite a career-high six-goal performance from junior midfielder Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Whitemarsh), the Wagner College women's lacrosse team was out-scored by Fairfield 25-11 in non-conference action.
With the win, Fairfield improved to 6-1 on the season while the Seahawks dropped to 1-7.
The Stags, who compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Blundin's first of five first-half goals put Wagner on the board with 21:12 remaining in the opening half. Fairfield built a 16-7 halftime lead en route to the victory. Cristin Lucena scored four goals and added three assists to pace the Fairfield attack while Rebecca White and Abbey Goodwin added three goals apiece.
Junior midfielder Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) scored two goals for the Seahawks. Sophomore midfielder Krista Malayter (Cheshire, CT/ Cheshire) added a goal and two assists while junior attack Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/ Jenkintown) and freshman defender Erica Almalfitano (East Islip, NY/ East Islip) added one goal apiece.
Fairfield held a 46-26 edge in shots and led in ground balls. 17-11 while each team won 19 draw controls.
Wagner returns to Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Sun., March 30 when the Seahawks host Quinnipiac in a Noon contest.
