Men's Tennis Falls At Fordham

The Wagner men's tennis team lost to Fordham by a 6-1 score in non-conference tennis action at the Hawthorn/Rooney Courts. The Rams are now 2-2 while the Green & White fall to 0-3.

Sophomore John LeBlanc (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) led the way for the Seahawks, posting a hard-fought 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 12-10 win over Brandon Abbatiello at No. 2 singles. The singles' victory was the first by a Seahawk student-athlete this year.

At first singles, freshman Marcelo Ensignia (Madrid, Spain / Saint Andrew's Academy) dropped a tough 6-4, 6-3 decision to Dallas Harting. Sophomore Yirmeyah Beckles (Cincinnati, OH / Aquinas College) fared no better at No. 3 singles, losing 6-1, 6-2 to Kevin Maloney. Daris Mattison shut out junior Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) at No. 4 singles. At the five-spot, senior Sheldon Wilson (Albany, NY / Albany) was also blanked by Eli Plangger. Rounding out singles' play, freshman Robert Santana (North Haledon, NJ / Manchester Regional) lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.

Fordham also won the doubles' point, claiming all three matches.

The Seahawks also competed at Saint Francis (PA) on Saturday, Oct. 4 and were defeated 7-0.

Wagner hosts Siena tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
