Bonura’s Header Leads the Seahawks to Victory over Quinnipiac, 1-0

Dominique Bonura
Staten Island, NY- Junior Dominique Bonura's (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/ Immaculate Heart) header in the closing minute of the first half was all the offense Wagner needed to capture a 1-0 Northeast Conference (NEC) victory over the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium.

Both teams fought back-and-forth throughout the majority of the first half until Bonura turned the game around with what would prove to be the game-winning header off of a centering pass from sophomore Briana Vassallo (Saddle Brook, NJ/ Paramus Catholic) to give the Seahawks a 1-0 victory.

In the second half, neither team was able to convert another goal as the Seahawks walked off with the win. Wagner's lone goal by Bonura was her second goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield) put up a spectacular performance between the pipes as she went the entire 90 minutes and recorded eight saves.

For the game, Quinnipiac (5-5-2, 1-3-2 NEC) bested Wagner (3-8-4, 1-3-1 NEC) in the shots category 20-13. As for corner kicks, the Seahawks led 4-3.

The Seahawks return to action on Friday October, 24 when they travel to Moon Township, PA to face Robert Morris University. Start time is set for 3:00 PM.
