Wagner Wins Over Sacred Heart and Mount

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's swimming team added two wins to their now 6-2 record as they defeated the Sacred Heart Pioneers 84-38 and the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers 96-25.

The meet started on the upswing for the Seahawks as they took first place in the 200 medley relay followed by first place finishes by juniors Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:28.42 and Colleen Bowman (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) clocking in at 2:00.89 in the 200 freestyle. Bowman also won the 500 freestyle in the 11th event of the day in 5:17.59.

Freshman Bethny Brown (Endfield, CT/Ennco Fermi High) continued the winning ways by taking top place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.03 while Lindsay Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon/Fullerton JC) place first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.30.

Freshman Sarah Plucinsky (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central) placed first in the 100 freestyle in 55:85 and sophomore Melanie Rodriguez-Lapman (Chesire, CT/Chesire) took the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:34.63 while senior Jess Radka (Reading Pa/Holy Name) was top finisher in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:14.45. The 400 freestyle relay team took also first place with a time of 3:44.68.

In all, the Seahawks were able to place swimmer at the top of ten of the 14 events.

Wagner returns to the pool Saturday, January 26th in the final meet of the regular season against conference rivals Central Connecticut University. The home meet begins at 2 p.m.
