Seahawks Drop Heartbreaker To Lafayette In Overtime, 2-1

Sept. 5, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College Women's Soccer team lost a gut wrenching decision 2-1 to Lafayette College (1-2-0, 0-0-0 Patriot) in overtime at Wagner College Stadium this afternoon. They now stand at (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NEC) on the early season.

A clutch goal by Seahawk freshman midfielder Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/MacArthur) that ensued after a heated battle for the ball tied the Leopards at a goal apiece in the 78th minute making overtime necessary.

Lafayette had scored a little more than 10 minutes earlier in the game in the 68th minute when Caroline Tuttle put a winner past Wagner's freshman goalkeeper Samantha Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield), who would go onto recording three saves in the contest.

Unfortunately for the home team, however, the extra period belonged ultimately to Lafayette. The Leopards weathered seven Seahawk shots on goal in the game before getting a sudden victory winning goal in the 111th minute from Kelly Koreyva off a corner kick from Lauren Hinkel.

The goal from Balling was the first of her collegiate career.

The Seahawks stay on Staten Island for another home match this Sunday when they take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Association member Siena College at Wagner College Stadium at 1 p.m.
