Wagner Men Finish Tenth At NEC Championship

May 6, 2007

Sunset Beach, NC - The Wagner Men's Golf finished in tenth place after the final round today at the NEC Championship set at the Sea Trail resort in North Carolina.

Their final team score for the weekend - the championship was a three-day 54-hole event - was 970, just behind Farleigh Dickinson with 936 and well in front of last place St. Francis (NY) with 1107.

Monmouth University edged out Saint Francis (PA) by just one stroke to take the team crown - 902 to 903 - and Patrick Kelly of Long Island University took the individual championship by going one-over-par the entire weekend, squeaking by Monmouth Hawk Anthony Campanile who shot a brilliant four-under-par 68 but still lost by a stroke.

As for Wagner, the Seahawks were led once again by senior Chris DeCarlo (Manchester, CT/Manchester) who shot a final round 76, leaving him with the 22nd best performance individually.

After DeCarlo it was senior Charles Lupardo (Staten Island, NY/Susan Wagner) who finished in a tie for 45th after mirroring what he did yesterday with another 82.

Sophomore Christopher Fourman (Greenville, OH/Greenville) was one stroke behind Lupardo after posting a 79 after today's eighteen and finishing in 47th. In 48th place was another member of the Green & White, sophomore Chris Meehan (Scotch Plains, NJ/Morristown Beard) who shot an 86.

Senior Peter Aloisio (Floral Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) rounded out the group and finished in 49th place after posting a 92 today.

It was the first time in NEC history that the tournament had been decided by a three-day format, previously it had only been two days. Team scores were determined by adding a school's four lowest scores in a given day. Monmouth will now represent the NEC in NCAA regional play from May 17-19.
