Gainesville, FL --Wagner track and field sophomore Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) made her debut at the NCAA Regionals earlier this evening in the long jump. The versatile athlete picked up 23rd place overall with a leap of 5.75 meters or 18 feet and 10.5 inches and was the second best Northeast Conference finisher in the event.
Alfano was just the first female athlete at Wagner to compete at the NCAA Regionals. Seahawk legend Tara Maguire took part in the NCAA Championships back in 1991 prior to the advent of the regionals format. This meet brings to a close a quality season for Alfano in which she reset the Wagner record for the long jump at 6.07 meters and was named team MVP.
