Staten Island, NY - Wagner (3-8; 1-4 NEC) failed in their bid to record consecutive wins for the first time this season, losing 7-0 to Sacred Heart (8-6; 3-1 NEC) earlier today at the College of Staten Island.
Sophomore Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) saw her three-match winning streak end at No. 1 singles, falling 6-2, 6-3 to Pam Pillo. At second singles, junior Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, Jamaica / Saint Andrews's) lost 6-2, 6-1 against Julianne Kasinow. At No. 3 singles, junior Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) was blanked by Nicole Betz. Jessica Schnell beat sophomore Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) also lost in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to Ashley Amalfe. Sacred Heart took sixth singles by default.
The Seahawks would fare no better in doubles play as Frazza and Crane lost a tight match 8-5 in the first flight while Mahtani and LeCureux fell in No. 2 doubles 8-2.
Wagner returns to action next Tuesday when they host St. Francis (NY).
