Stats

New Rochelle, NY --The Wagner College women's water polo team picked up their third straight win after knocking off the Villanova Wildcats by a score of 8-5. The win moves Wagner's record to 13-14 and 5-3 in MAAC play.

After their come from behind win over Iona earlier today, the Wagner Seahawks got off on the right foot in this game scoring the first goal as Amber McMichael (Reading, PA/Gov. Mifflin) found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Wagner. The Wildcats however, would go on to score three of the next four goals to lead 3-2 after the first period. The other Wagner score came from senior co-captain Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) who returned to the pool as a starter this weekend after missing most of last weekend nursing a sore back.

Following the first period Wagner got their act together as they pitched a shutout spanning the second and third quarters to build a 7-3 lead headed into the fourth quarter. During that run the Green & White gained two more scores from McMichael to give her a hat trick. In addition Stacey Travous scored again, and Alexandra Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) and Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) scored a goal apiece.

The fourth quarter saw the Seahawks offense tack on one more score as senior co-captain Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) lit the proverbial lamp to make it an 8-3 Wagner lead. Villanova would score two late goals but they would not figure in the difference as Wagner went away with the win. Senior goalie Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA) refunded seven Wildcat shots on the day.

The Seahawks are back in action tomorrow when they wrap up regular season play with games against St. Francis (NY) and Siena in Brooklyn, New York.
