Seahawks Win 4-3 Thriller Over SFPA

Loretto, PA - Wagner (3-7; 1-3 NEC) won for the third time in five matches with a thrilling 4-3 win over Saint Francis (PA) (2-16; 2-3 NEC). Tied at 3-3 after singles play the Seahawks took two of the doubles matches to pull out the victory.

Sophomore Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) continued her red-hot play winning for the third-straight match at No. 1 singles with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Becky Seybold. At second singles, junior Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, Jamaica / Saint Andrews's) was handed a tough 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) loss by Mallary Palmer. Junior Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) pulled out a huge win at third singles with a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win over Danielle Gauthier. Ashley Zalewski shut down sophomore Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) at fourth singles before freshman Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) dominated Maria Cook 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles. SFPA's Carrie Daubert won sixth singles by default.

Tied up at 3-3 it would come down the match would come down to the doubles' competition. The Seahawks were down 1-0 before the play even started as they forfeited third doubles. Frazza and Crane evened it up at 1-1 with a convincing 8-1 win over Seybold and Palmer. This set the stage for Mahtani and LeCureux as the pair captured their match by a slim 9-8 (7-4) margin over Gauthier and Zalewski to clinch the doubles point and the victory for the Green & White.

Wagner hosts Sacred Heart on Tuesday at 3 pm.
