Siena Tops Wagner 17-4 in Men's Lacrosse

Loudonville, NY - The Wagner men's lacrosse team was topped by host Siena 17-4 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game earlier today. The Seahawks received scoring from four different players, but the Saints raced out to an 8-2 halftime lead which Wagner never recovered from.

Siena's (7-4, 4-0 MAAC) Matt Donovan scored the game's only goal in the first 12 minutes as Wagner senior goalie Ian Gallagher (Syracuse, NY / Westhill) made five of his 10 saves in the opening quarter. Junior Andrew Daly (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt) finally put Wagner (0-11, 0-4 MAAC) on the board at the three minute mark with an unassisted goal, his team leading 11th of the season. Matt Girsh, then came alive for the Saints with two of his game high six goals in the final 16 seconds of the opening quarter to give Siena a 3-1 advantage.

The Saint run continued in the second quarter with five consecutive goals in the first 14 minutes before sophomore Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/Novi) found the back of the net off an assist from junior Ryan Martin (Florham Park, NJ/Bayley Ellard) with 38 seconds left before the intermission. The third quarter was more from Siena as they outscored the Seahawks 8-0 to extend the lead to 16-2.

Martin and senior Josh Hamilton (Millersville, MD/Serverna Park) scored consecutive goals in the first five minutes of the fourth period for Wagner before a man up goal with six minutes remaining by the Saints accounted for the final score.

Sophomore Brandon Waszak (Fredrick, MD/Linganore) took over for Gallagher in goal, playing the final 18 minutes making four saves.

Siena won 20 of the 24 face-off attempts in the game.

Wagner is back in action on Wednesday when they host Manhattan at 4:00 pm.
