Wagner Gets Back In The Win-Column With 6-1 Win Over SFNY

Staten Island, NY - The men's tennis team ended their four-match losing streak with a 6-1 win against St. Francis (NY) at CSI. With the win Wagner is now 3-10 and 2-4 in the NEC.

At No. 2 singles, freshman John LeBlanc (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) got things rolling with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Elan Evans. Graduate student Robert Kiley (Greenlawn, NY / Hofstra) then posted a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at third singles over Vihren Todorov. Freshman Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) dominated at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Rob Vandenburg. Classmate Byron Clohessy then picked up his first collegiate victory with a tough 7-5, 6-4 win over Tyrone Fordham at No. 5. At No. 6 singles, sophomore Will Shuler (Springfield, MA / Central Springfield) wrapped up the Seahawk-domination in singles-play with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over B. Radosavlje.

Elsewhere, junior Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) lost to Jindrich Chalupka 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

At first doubles, the tandem of Chalupka and Evans defeated Amster and Clohessy 8-2. However the Seahawks rallied to win the next two doubles matches to take the doubles' point. LeBlanc and Kiley shut out Vandenburg and Fordham 8-0 at No. 2 doubles before Serbiak and Shuler posted an easy 8-3 win over Todorov and Radosavlje.

Wagner has little time to savor its win as they return to action on Thursday with a home match against Lafayette starting at 3:30 pm.
