Stats

Cambridge, MA --The Wagner College women's water polo team appearance in the ECAC Championships came to a disappointing close as they were handled by Marist College 9-5 in the 5th place game of the Championships. The loss now puts Wagner at 7-6 on the season and is their second straight loss to the Red Foxes dating back to last season's MAAC title game.

The Seahawks started off on the right foot as Billy Hoelck (San Diego, CA/U. of San Diego HS) found the back of the net just 2:12 into the game to make things 1-0 Wagner. That would be the highlight of Wagner's day as Marist then ran off seven straight goals over the rest of the first half into the start of the second half. Marist held a 5-1 lead at the half and was up 7-1 in the third quarter before Wagner would score again.

Hoelck scored once more and that was followed by a score for Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City) making the game 7-3 Marist. Wagner would draw to within four goals at 8-4 and 9-5 on scores by Stacey Travous (New Ulm, MN/Cumberland Valley) and Natasha Peterson (Whittier, CA/La Habra) but it would get no closer than that.

Senior Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) went the whole way in net saving nine shots and recording two steals.

Wagner is next in action in two weeks at the Wolverine Invitational held at the University of Michigan in Anne Arbor, Michigan. Their opponents have yet to be announced.
