Wagner Defeats Delaware State For Second Win Of The Year

Staten Island, NY - Wagner (2-6) won for the second time in three matches defeating Delaware State by a 5-2 count yesterday. The Seahawks claimed four of the six singles matches as well as the doubles point in their dominating victory over the Hornets.

Sophomore Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) got things rolling for the Green & White with an easy 6-3, 6-0 win over Julieta Yung at first singles. At No. 3, junior Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) pulled out a hard-fought win 6-4, 7-5, defeating Stephanie Peels. Sophomore Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) defeated Anikka Ahmed 6-3, 6-4 at fourth singles. Freshman Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) was dominant at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Shadara Edmond.

Junior Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, Jamaica / Saint Andrews's) lost a hard-fought 6-3, 6-3 decision to Kelly Carrigan at second singles. She rebounded in doubles, combining with LeCureux for the 8-4 victory over Peels and Ahmed at second doubles. Crane and Frazza wrapped up the doubles point, taking down Yung and Carrigan 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

The Hornets won the point at sixth singles by default to round out the scoring.

Wagner returns to action on Friday, March 30 at 3 pm with a match against Manhattan at the National Tennis Center.
