Jersey City, NJ - The Wagner Seahawks began their spring season with a 7-0 loss at Saint Peter's. The Green & White are now 0-5 while the Peahens improve to 4-11.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) lost 6-2, 6-2 to Vanessa Pangikas. Junior Aarti Mahtani (Montego Bay, Jamaica / Saint Andrews's) fell to Angela Wiggs 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. At No. 3, classmate Marie Crane (Cheshire, CT / Cheshire) was set down in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 by Kristy Bonner. At No. 4, sophomore Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Meredith Earley. Jing Cheung defeated Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) at No. 5, 6-1, 7-5. The Green & White forfeited sixth singles as Saint Peter's took all six singles matches.
In doubles action, Frazza and Crane were edged 8-3 against Pangikas and Wiggs at first doubles. Saint Peter's captured the doubles point when Bonner and Earley shut out Mahtani and Boyd 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Friday's men's and women's match at Virginia State has been cancelled due to weather. The two teams will next be in action at UMES on Saturday at 11 am.
