Men's Lacrosse Loses At Holy Cross, 15-3

March 13, 2007

Final Stats

Worcester, MA - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team dropped an away bout to host Holy Cross (2-4-0, 0-1-0 Patriot) in a non-conference showdown this evening at the Hart Turf Field, 15-3. They fall to a record of 0-5-0, 0-0-0 MAAC on the season.

The Crusaders took a 5-0 lead into the second period on the wings of senior Grant Cowherd's two scores. In the second, the Seahawks finally got on the board - with two scores - as senior midfielder Josh Hamilton (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore attack Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/Novi) both found the back of the net with unassisted goals.

Holy Cross would take an 8-2 advantage over Wagner into the halftime intermission.

Unfortunately, the Seahawks couldn't make a second-half surge as the Crusaders held them scoreless in the third period while adding three more tallies. Cowherd added another with 1:11 left in the third - he would lead all scorers with four goals on the night.

Wagner would add only one more goal in the final period when sophomore attack Evan Shull (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) scored with 8:25 left. It wasn't enough, however, as Holy Cross would end up winning the contest going away, 15-3.

Senior goalkeeper Ian Gallagher (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) spent all 60 minutes between the pipes recording an impressive 22 saves against 48 shots.

In contrast, the Seahawks were only able to fire off 13 shots on goal the entire game.

Wagner now looks forward to a home game this Saturday against the Bobcats of Quinnipiac at 1 p.m.
