March 10, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's lacrosse team lost their home-opener to Lafayette (1-4-0, 0-0-0 Patriot) in a non-conference showdown at Wagner College Stadium this afternoon, 16-4. They fall to a record of 0-4-0, 0-0-0 MAAC on the year.

The visiting Leopards jumped out to a commanding six-goal lead to start the game, shutting out Wagner in the first period by a score of 5-0. Lafayette junior Mike Meirowitz provided two goals in the damage, one coming from fellow teammate Matt Mersky, a freshman attack who would wind up with four goals on the day.

Wagner start to service up some staunch defense after the halftime intermission, holding Lafayette scoreless for just under seven minutes - but they too would be without a score and couldn't manage to get themselves back into the game.

Sophomore attack Jeff Policicchio (Novi, MI/Novi) led all Seahawk scorers with two goals on the afternoon. Junior midfielder Mike Hess (Potomac, MD/The Heights School) and freshman attack Dylan Fodel (Boulder, CO/Boulder) would also tack on a goal apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Ian Gallagher (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) spent all but 49 seconds between the pipes recording 17 saves against 42 shots.

The Seahawks load up the bus for their next game this Tuesday when they take on the Crusaders of Holy Cross at 6 p.m. in Worcester, Massachusetts.
